Joshua

Book 6 of 39 in the Old Testament — Conquest of the Promised Land.

Summary

What Joshua is about

Joshua picks up where Deuteronomy ends, following Moses' successor as he leads Israel across the Jordan River into the Promised Land. Jericho's walls fall, a covenant-breaking defeat at Ai is overturned, and a series of campaigns bring much of Canaan under Israelite control. The book's second half turns to dividing the conquered land among the twelve tribes. Joshua closes with a covenant renewal ceremony and his challenge to Israel to ‘choose this day whom you will serve.’
